Which chore do you hate to do?
Hi everyone … longer post later. (Sorry about none yesterday — house guests arrived,
and I had to play the host with the most. Everything has been going great, and I have split pea soup in the crockpot (here is the great recipe) and French bread baking in the breadmaker — a great way to save money.)
At any rate, as much as I love home-keeping, home-caring or any other euphanism you care to call it, everyone has that one task that they despise.
So the question du jour is:
Which housekeeping chore can you not stand to do, and why?
I’ll start.
Mine is laundry, even though I have streamlined it with these tips, I still cringe with the thought. Honestly, I would rather scrub a toilet any day. I put some thought into it, and figured out the reason I don’t like to do laundry is that there is only this small window of a sense of accomplishment. I’ll explain …
You set out to do laundry, and get all the whites, colors and darks done. The baskets are wonderfully empty. But then you decide to take a shower, and — boom — there are now dirty clothes. What, I got all of 5 minutes when it was all done!
Anyway, take a moment and share the one chore you despise … it will be fun to vent (and read). ![]()

Hands down it’s dishes… I grew up with a dishwasher… but now that I’m a “grown-up” I don’t have that luxury. HATE HATE HATE!! When we get a house of our own it will be major purchase #1!!

Oh gosh, I *feel* for you! Good for you — and my condolences.

Another blogger found you! And, hit the archives! That’s because you are so awesome!
Scrubbing the bath tubs. I don’t know why. I like a nice clean bath tub. I have a cool black & decker srubbing cleaner machine thingie. But, the tubs I tend to procrastinate with.

Oh that’s so sweet … thanks.
… It’s funny what people don’t like … I just feel for you on how much laundry you must do.

I hate all housework. But, if I have to narrow it down, it’s definitely the toilet bowl, floors, and laundry. The only reason I don’t hate windows is that I don’t DO windows. The reason I hate laundry is not the washing or the drying - it’s the FOLDING and PUTTING AWAY. Just like I don’t mind loading the dishwasher, but loathe putting the dishes away. Also, if I do dishes by hand, I don’t mind washing. I hate drying and PUTTING AWAY.

Funny, I have learned to be OK with emptying the disahwasher … I guess ’cause I added it to the big picture of how important it was for the morning routine. But you’re right — it was a drag for years.

Thanks for sharing! Laundry (hands down) has to be my worst chore, especially with 5 kids and a husband who plays Basketball 2 nights a week and twice a week at work during his lunch breaks! It is never ending! I found an easy solution. When I do laundry, everyone is responsible for folding and putting away their own clothes (even the 4 years old). When I am done with the laundry, I put everyone’s clothes into their own laundry basket and then cart them to their rooms. Whether it gets done or not is their responsibility. Of course I am still responsible for my 1 year-old’s clothes and mine and sometimes have to help the 4 year old. It has worked well so far!

Great idea (and boy did I feel for you — and my Mom. We were 5 kids, too)

While I do have plenty of laundry and plenty of dishes to wash, I try to keep those in perspective (at least I have plenty of those things AND a machine to help me out!)
BUT
It’s the toilets that I hate to clean. Something about 4 boys…
Like Farmer’s Wife, I’m not overly fond of bathtubs either.
